Algal Omega 3s
products.product.pickup_availability.unavailable
Our Algae Oil is a powerful, plant-based source of omega-3s EPA and DHA that delivers a minimum of 36% combined EPA + DHA (by weight) to support your dog’s brain, heart, and joints. Grown in clean, closed bioreactors not the ocean it’s naturally low in contaminants and far more sustainable than fish or krill oil.
Oh, and no fishy smell. Just clean, consistent omega-3s your pup will actually take.

No Introduced Oxygen
While Flip tops, caps, droppers, pumps do offer a level of convenience, they aren't a good option for storing the oil. Each time you go to add it to the food, you introduce oxygen to the oil which speeds up the rate at which it becomes rancid.

K9 BioActives Difference
The Right Omega 3's
EPA and DHA are the specific omega-3s that most dogs could benefit from adding to their diet.
The reason is that many dog foods on the market, even those that advertise the omega 6 to 3 ratio, often contain high levels of the omega-3 fatty acid Alpha Linoleic Acid (ALA) from ingredients like Flaxseed or, less often, Chia Seeds.
While ALA is an essential fatty acid, it does not have the same biological effects as EPA and DHA. Furthermore, the conversion of ALA to EPA and DHA is very low in dogs and almost non-existent in cats. (Humans are by no means good at it either, with some variations based on genetics.)
This is why fish oil and fish consumption are commonly recommended for multiple health conditions in dogs, cats, and humans; because the amount of EPA and DHA is more important than the omega 6 to 3 Ratio, and most of the health benefits are from EPA and DHA, not ALA.
To illustrate this, a 5 to 1 Omega 6 to 3 Ratio, where a large portion of the omega 3s are ALA, is very different than a 5 to 1 Omega 6 to 3 Ratio, where a decent amount of the omega 3s are EPA and DHA.
Chemical Form (Bioavailability)
Most of the Fish and Algae oils on the market have an ethyl ester backbone; while significantly cheaper to produce than Polar (Phospholipids & Glycolipids) or Neutral (Triglyceride & Wax Ester), ethyl-ester has the lowest absorption rate.
What makes our Algae Oil superior is that the EPA is mostly comprised of polar lipids (phospholipids and glycolipids). Meanwhile, DHA is in its natural triglyceride form.
The research to date demonstrates the superiority of polar lipids at lowering blood triglycerides and having a greater impact on the omega-3 index than ethyl ester (Most Common) triglycerides and re-esterified triglycerides.
Cost
1. The "Infant Formula" Standard
For over 30 years, the high cost of developing pure algal oil was absorbed by the infant formula industry to ensure babies had a safe, mercury-free source of DHA. This long-term investment created the gold-standard, highly vetted oil we use today. While the price has decreased over three decades (Was 20 to 30 times the cost of fish oil), it remains a premium nutrient compared to mass-produced industrial fish oils.
2. No "Label Fillers" (ALA/SDA)
Many "budget" vegan Omega-3s dilute their product with cheaper plant oils like flaxseed, hemp, or Ahiflower. These contain ALA or SDA, which need to be converted into EPA and DHA. We provide pre-formed EPA and DHA, meaning you get exactly what you pay for without your dogs body having to do the "heavy lifting."
3. Superior Absorption (Form Matters)
We invest in the most bioavailable molecular forms available:
- EPA in Polar Lipid form
- DHA in Triglyceride form
When you compare actual absorbable EPA and DHA content rather than just total "Omega" milligrams, our oil is a more efficient and cost-effective investment in your dog's health.
EPA and DHA
Many algae oils only contain the omega-3 fatty acid DHA, while there are a few Algae oils that contain both EPA and DHA; this the result of mutagenic breeding of Schizochytrium spp. to produce EPA.
Mutagenic Breeding has two benefits for the company
- Allows them to still claim Non-GMO
- Avoids the regulatory burden that comes with Genetic Modification.
We feel this is deceptive to consumers who strive to avoid foods that have been genetically altered, and while DHA is a wonderful addition, ideally, we would like to add both EPA and DHA.
Concentrated Source of EPA and DHA
Our Algal Omega delivers a minimum of 36.9% combined EPA + DHA, so you get the target dose with less oil and fewer calories than typical fish oils (18% Ethyl Ester).
Why concentration matters
- Lower calories per dose. Each Capsule is 6.25 Calories to get the same amount of EPA and DHA from a standard fish oil you would have to feed 13.4 Calories. While 6.876 Calories might not seem like a big deal it can quickly add up.

Addressing
The Marine Lipid Shortage
Our animals would ideally consume more EPA & DHA, and ideally, so would all of us. The one saving grace for the ecosystem is that most people (68% of all US adults, and 95% of childbearing age women) and our animals are not consuming anywhere close to the recommended amount. While more expensive right now, the cost should eventually go down, and it needs to if algae oil is going to be part of the solution to help address the fact that the world's waterways can't provide enough EPA and DHA for everyone in the world let alone of Canine and Feline Companions.
